When Kids Stay Home… the Creativity Stays ON Sick day? Snow day? No problem. Sometimes the best kind of learning happens when we slow down. This young creative was home from school and decided to challenge herself, no tablets, no instructions, just pencils and her imagination. She carefully balanced each one upright, strengthening her fine motor coordination, focus, and visual skills… and then snapped this awesome photo to capture her creation! 🤩✏️📸 As an occupational therapist, I LOVE moments like these. 💭 Imagine a line of toys and classroom STEM materials that make science tactile and audible... helping kids actually feel and hear concepts like atoms, molecules, and chemical reactions. That’s the kind of inclusive innovation I get excited about, where play meets accessibility, and learning becomes hands-on, multi-sensory, and equitable for all children. I was so inspired by a project from the 2024 Global Innovation Challenge where three student innovators, Guge Sun, Yansong Tang, and Jiaqi Jia, created chemistry teaching aids for students who are blind or visually impaired. Their tools use sound and texture to teach complex science in a way that truly connects. We have such an exciting opportunity in the toy and education world to design for ALL learners.
